Satoyama, a symbol of the wonderful Japanese nature

There is a beautiful butterfly that can only be found in satoyama, the area between mountain foothills and arable flat land where nature is abundant. It is the Japanese national butterfly, called Oomurasaki. The species can only be seen in its adult stage for a brief moment in the summer. The larvae born from the eggs left behind grow in the thicket slowly over the course of a year changing along with the four seasons.
